Objective(s)
To strengthen AfricTivistes’ organisational resilience in the face of increasing restrictions on democratic freedoms, by implementing the Resilience Plus process to prepare the organisation for emergencies and changes in the civic ecosystem.

Overview
INSPIRES — Resilience Plus is the ‘Prevention’ component of USAID’s overarching Enabling and Protecting Civic Space (EPCS) project, of which AfricTivistes is one of 18 beneficiary organisations worldwide. This programme aims to strengthen the organisation’s resilience in the face of restrictions on civic space through the implementation of an Emergency Preparedness Plan, fundraising and communication strategies, and staff capacity-building.
CONTEXT
Restrictions on the democratic freedoms of association, assembly and expression are on the rise worldwide, threatening civil society organisations’ ability to operate freely. Against this backdrop, INSPIRES is fostering innovative learning on the dynamics of civic space, focusing on three key areas: forecasting, prevention and response.
APPROACH
The Prevention component implemented by AfricTivistes is centred on the Resilience Plus process, which combines: the implementation of an Emergency Preparedness Plan, the development of fundraising and communication strategies, staff capacity-building (soft skills, safety, wellbeing) and a series of workshops for the administrative office, culminating in an assessment of the organisation’s level of resilience.
